Willie M. Bill, Sr., age 91, of Sand Creek, died on Thursday, July 21, 2016 at the home surrounded by family.
He was born October 2, 1924, in Sonora, Texas to Ramon and Catarina (Morin) Bill. On July 20, 1943, he married Maria (Lupe) DeGuadalupe Valdez and she survives. He served in the U.S. Army during the World War II. Willie was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Willie was a State Champion Sheep Shearer for eight consecutive years and represented the State of Michigan at the World National Sheep Shearing Contest. He enjoyed participating in the Fiber Festival in Allegan, MI for 35 years, running clinics and teaching people how to shear sheep. He and his family enjoyed running Bill's Tacos at the Lenawee County Fair for over 38 years. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, and traveling and for the last nine years he walked the Mackinaw Bridge. Willie owned a 75 acre ranch called Canyon Ranch in Texas, where he spent his time in the winter.
In addition to his wife, Lupe, he is survived by his children, Ramon (Marge) Bill of Houston, Texas, Frank Bill of Sand Creek, Willie Bill Jr. of Clayton, Phillip (Minni) Bill of Manitou Beach, Lewis Bill of Sand Creek, Jose Maria Bill of Sand Creek, Andy (Sue) Bill of Sand Creek, Tina Bill of Sand Creek, and Anita (Paul) Lanczki of Adrian; 19 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; five sisters, Celia Lozano, Estella (Arturo) Pruneda, Esther Moreno, all of Kerrville, Texas, and Thelma (Randy) Holmes of Mathis, Texas, Olga (Leslie) Harwell of Wimberly, Texas, and a brother, Ellis (Oralia) Bill of Kerrville, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Fred and Oscar Bill; a son at birth; a daughter, Rachel, in infancy; and a grandson, Michael Bill.
The Funeral Liturgy will be offered Monday, July 25th at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary of Good Counsel Parish with Fr. Tom Murphy as Celebrant. Burial will be in Sand Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be held Saturday from 4 – 8 p.m. and Sunday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home, where there will be a Rosary prayed at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will also be held Monday from 9:30 – 10:15 a.m. at St. Mary of Good Counsel Parish to be followed by the service.
