ADRIAN-Robert P. Carey, age 91, of Adrian, died Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at the Lenawee Medical Care Facility in Adrian. He was born April 29, 1925, in Adrian to Louis M. and Marcel M. (Laberdie) Carey. He graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1943. On November 24, 1945, he married Alice Porter in Brisbane, Australia. She preceded him in death on April 13, 2005. Robert served in the U.S. Navy from 1943-1946. He had been employed by American Chain and Cable for 42 years, retiring in July 1987. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Moose Lodge #1034, and the American Legion Post #97.
Robert is survived by a son, Robert C. (Deb) Carey of Brighton, MI; ten daughters, Shan (Wally) Lynch of Monroe, Mary Lou Carey of Adrian, JoAnne (Joe) Kimling of Hudson, Jane (Jim) Zemlo of Wildwood, Fl, , Kathryn (Mike) Hoover of Lansing, Nellie Carey of Adrian, Roberta (Ken) Zawacki of Naperville, IL, Genevieve Robinson of Tecumseh, Sarah Carey (Jim Murphy) of Lansing, and Bridgette (Joe) Kay of North Auroa IL; a brother, William (Nancy) Carey of Adrian; two sisters, Patricia Sattler of Reno, NV. and Kathleen (Charles) Urban of Palmyra; 20 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Alice, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Theresa Carey, his parents; two brothers, Louis and Phillip; two sisters, Mary Tester and Frances Gower; grandson, Joseph Zemlo and a great-granddaughter, Gracie Kimling.
The Funeral Liturgy will be held Tuesday August 16, 2016 at 11;00 St. Mary's Catholic Church presided by Father Thomas Murphy. Military rights will be conducted by the V.F.W. Post #1584 ANNIS-FINT. Internment of cremains will take place in St. Mary's Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be held Monday, August 15, 2016 from 2:00 – 8:00 the Anderson Funeral Home, Adrian, where there will be a Rosary held 7:30 p.m. Visitation will also be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Tuesday, from 10:00 10:45 am.
