Tribute & Message From The Family

Hyrtl Allan Taft, age 89, of Adrian, formerly of Tecumseh and Manitou Beach, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 2, 2016, at Brookdale of Adrian. He was born May 31, 1927, to Duane O. and Octa M. (Smoke) Taft in Adrian, Michigan.

He married the love of his life, Barbara Jean (Smith) Taft on January 1, 1948, in Onsted, Michigan. Reverend Hague performed the ceremony. They celebrated 66 years together.

Hyrtl served in the United States Army, stationed in France, and was honorably discharged in November 1947. Though incredibly homesick during his deployment, he served with pride and spoke of his time in France often.

Hyrtl, along with his wife Barbara, spent many years engaged in farming and raising livestock on their farm at 14717 Rome Road. He was also employed at the Cutler-Dickerson Company in Adrian, Michigan, from which he retired in 1989 after 42 years of service.

Hyrtl is survived by his children, Candace (Stephen) Lombard of Glendora, CA, Bradley Taft of Adrian, MI, Constance (Michael) Marceau of Adrian, MI and Lisa (Ricky) Marks of Clayton, MI; grandchildren, Courtney (Bret) Weyenberg, Zachary Marks, Chanda Marks, Kellen Marceau and Kylie Marceau.
He was preceded in death by his wife on March 24, 2014, his parents, his sister and brother-in-law Myra Ilene (Taft) and Howard Derbyshire, and granddaughter, Kathryn (Katie) Marceau.

Cremation has taken place per Hyrtl's request. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 6, 2016, from 5-8 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home, 3050 West Beecher Rd, Adrian, MI. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, September 7, 2016, at Anderson Funeral Home, Adrian with Reverend Lloyd Jewett officiating. You may send condolences to the family at www.andersonfuneralservices.com. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Lenawee or the Lenawee Humane Society. As you know I worked with Hyrtl for more than half of his 42 years at the Cutler Dickerson Co. I much enjoyed my time with your dad. He was a good hard working man, something that's not always easy to find these days. It is with much regret that I am unable to attend his service, but our thoughts and prayers will be with your family on this day.

My thoughts and prayers are with your family. I have fond memories of going to the farm as a kid and seeing the newborn hogs. I also enjoyed all the times that our families spent together on the lake having cookouts on the boat. May you all be blessed with peace to keep you through this time. Daryl Staton

Sending my sympathies to you all while remembering ALL the wonderful times we spent together with you in the kitchen, the barn, the boat, and the fairs. Such great memories of your Dad and Mom. Blessings!!!

Lisa, Candy, Brad and Connie, I knew each of you better than your parents but I do understand the hole that is left as our parents age and pass on. I have memories of each of you and God has blessed you with the ability to remember being raised in a family that loved and cared for one another. That doesn't happen by accident. Parenting is one of the high callings on this earth. Your parents obviously did many things right because each of you now carry on that "Taft" tradition and heritage as you live your lives. Time is a wonderful thing. In time the tears of loss will be replaced with the laughter of remembrance. My very best to each of you in your service and care for your dad in his last years and and in your loss at this time. Tom Britsch

I'm very grateful for the wonderful memories I have of my visits to Hyrtl and Barb's home. Our drives, card games, visits to the Amish country, lunches at Burger King, and Hyrtl teaching me to tie the wood bundle knot are times I will always cherish. Hyrtl's legacy will live on for many years to come. As we grieve his passing rejoice that he's reunited with his loving wife.

Dad,
I love you and miss you so much. However, I am so happy that you and Mom are together again.
I am sure you had a great time at the dance last night and went to sleep holding hands. Rest in peace now, free of pain.
Love,
Lisa May
